Welcome to Magnetorheological Damper Laboratory!

Are you looking for practical knowledge on magnetorheological, viscous and semi-active dampers? You have come to the right place.

The purpose of this site is to give useful information on the operating principle of such dampers, offer guidelines in buying or designing a specific damper application, construction and testing.

To find a list of articles about the whole design process, check out the For Researchers-page. To find out my recommendations for dampers and damper-related equipment, check Damper Equipment.

As a case example in this site we are using a semi-active magnetorheological damper in an elevator motor. Naturally the damper can be used –  and is used – in a large number of other applications, such as in the automotive industry.

Most of the  information on this site is based on my Master’s Thesis “Control of Machine Room Vibration“ that was approved in Aalto University’s Control Engineering research group with grade 4 out of 5. The work was done in co-operation with KONE Corporation R&D center in Finland. As a result of the research, an international patent application (PCT application) was filed in for the National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland.
